Private William Henry MICKLEWRIGHT No. 7390 1st Bn. North Staffordshire Regiment transf. to (263385) Labour Corps
Died 12 October 1918 aged 41.

Some notes from what remains of both sets of his army records.

He first joined up 10 April 1901 aged 24, Gave his residence as Hanley, occupation, painter. He had previously served with the 1st Volunteer Battalion, North Staffordshire Regiment. He left the army on the termination of his period of engagement. He fought in the Boer War from 23 May 1901 to 4 July 1902 awarded the South African Medal with clasps. He was medically discharged unfit for service on the 31 October 1906 to his wife and children at 9 Casper Street, Hanley. He married his wife Sarah Ann nee Hancock at St Marks Church, Shelton 10 October 1898.

He re-joined 19 July 1915 aged 38 years and 6 months. Resided with his family at 56 Bedford Street, Shelton, Stoke on Trent, occupation, painter. 20 July 1915 he was posted to the North Staffordshire Regiment, Depot, Lichfield, posted to the 3rd Battalion on 23 July 1915 and transferred to the 10 Battalion on 1 October 1915. He was again transferred this time to the 3rd Reserve Training Battalion on 1 September 1916, then 488th Home Service Employment Coy, Labour Corps. He was discharged no longer physically fit for war service 24 December 1917.
