Francis James WILLIAMS. Private M/335700, 1073rd Mechanical Transport Coy, Army Service Corps gave his life for King and Country in Palestine, 9th September 1918 aged 38. (Died of wounds) Eldest son of Francis C and Charlotte Williams, nee Golding, husband of Mary Alice Williams, of Gloucester Road, Thornbury, Gloucestershire. She was granted a war gratuity on the 25th January 1919, revised on the 10th March 1919, 3rd December 1919 and 11th March 1920.
Some note from his army records. He joined the Army Service Corps at Isleworth London aged 35 years. Previous occupation, nurseryman, lived at Gloucester Road, Thornbury. On the 14th July 1910 he married Mary Alice Milson at Holt Parish Church, Wiltshire. They had one child, Kenneth Francis born 12th January 1912 at Thornbury. On the evening of the 7th September 1918 he was admitted 76 Casualty Clearing Station, Palestine dangerously ill with Malaria. On the 9th September he died of Malignant Malaria complicated by Ambetic Dysentry. Commemorated on family memorial in Thornbury Cemetery, Kington Lane, Thornbury, Gloucestershire. At rest in Ramleh War Cemetery. Israel and Palestine (including Gaza)
