William Dennis WILSON

Extended Description
Private 24205487 William Dennis WILSON 8th County Tyrone Battalion. Shot dead by PIRA after 3 unmasked gunmen entered the family farmhouse at Curlough, Aghaloo near Caledon. He had a cold and went to bed when the gunmen shot him in his room on the 7th December 1971 aged 31 and single. They took his SLR rifle, indications that the primary reason for the raid was not the weapon. The gunmen escaped over the border which was 300 yards away. The SLR they took with them was minus some essential working parts. There was a belief the he was targeted personally and is supported by the fact the gunmen ignored his brother-in-law who was also in the UDR and was in the house at the time. At rest in Minterburn Presbyterian Cemetery, County Tyrone.
His UDR memorial brick at the UDR Memorial, National Memorial Arboretum, Arewas, Staffordshire has 6 UDR.
Commemorated on the Ulster Defence Regiment Roll of Honour
