WROE William. Private, 4680, 13th, Manchester Regiment. He was wounded in Salonica and died in Malta on the 3rd January 1917. He was born in Skelmersdale, Lancashire and is at rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. A search was made on Ancestry.co.uk. and an army record was found for a Private 4680, Manchester Regiment. How ever as you proceed through what is left of these records there is another Private 166655, Formerly of the Manchester Regiment , he later was transferred to the East Lances Regiment. His cover form (Short Service) shows two numbers 4680 which has been crossed out and new number written down 16655. I have saved several copy documents. Private 16655 was transferred to Class Z on the 23rd January 1919. Most of the record refers to 16655. Two medal cards were found , both separate numbers and they also show 4680 deceased and the date the other 16655 to Class Z with date. it appears Army records got slightly mixed up with these two soldiers.
