Waffen SS & Captured Soviet Standard

Waffen SS troops with captured Soviet Army unit standard somewhere on the Eastern Front, probably 1941.

They actually look like re-enactors to me. The lighting of the photo seems more modern, pictures from the 1940s generally don't have that much contrast. Everything looks pristine from the uniforms, the flags to even their faces which I would all expect to look dirtier than this after a fight with Soviet troops. A lot of the early war SS had gone through rigorous training and were by today's military standards ranging from skinny to emaciated. These guys' faces look pretty chunkers, like American weekend warriors.

I agree, picture is “too neat to be genuine”, at least for 1941.

I still have a (real) picture somewhere about captured Soviet Union flag during Barbarossa, I’ll try to dig it up and post it too.

Yeah, I did a photo search and only two hits that I saw were from tumbler, a mix of pix and gifs.
