Vera Louisa WILLENBRUCH. Daughter of Sergeant Charles Frederick and Mabel Lilian, nee Drew, Royal Garrison Artillery. Born 2nd January and died at Malta 10th January 1911 aged 9 days.

Information about her father -
Charles Frederick Willenbruch. He was born on the 6th April 1869 at Clapham, London son of George and Louisa. In 1871 he was living with his parents and siblings at 73 North Street, Clapham. In 1881 living with his parents at 16 D Block, Peabody Buildings, Soho, London. He married Miss Mabel Lillian Drew at Avonmouth, Bristol on the 22nd March 1904. They had the following children - Ernest Walter, born 14th June 1905 at Buncrana, County Donegal. Bertram Charles, born 12th September 1907 at Valletta, Malta. Vera Louisa born 2nd January 1911 at Valletta, Malta and died 10th January 1911 at Malta. He joined the army on the 3rd December 1894 aged 23 and a wheelwright by profession. His mother Louisa was his next of kin and she lived at 151 Lupus Street, Pimlico, London, later his wife Mabel Lillian of 1 Ringford Road, West Hill, Wandsworth became his next of kin. On the 4th December 1894 he was posted to the Royal Artillery, Western Division Depot at Crownhill Fort, Plymouth as private 7255. The 1st April 1894 he was posted to 4th Mountain Artillery. He extended his service to 12 years with the colours, promoted Wheeler Corporal, on the 1st April 1905 with 15th Coy, Royal Garrison Artillery. Re-engaged at Londonderry, Ireland to complete 21 years service with the colours. Posted as Wheeler Corporal, on the 12th February 1907 to 96th Coy, Royal Garrison Artillery. 9th August 1908 promoted to Wheeler Sergeant, then Wheeler Staff Sergeant on the 9th August 1911. The 12th August 1908 he was posted to 96 Company Royal Garrison Artillery, Malta and left Malta on the 18th April 1912 and was posted to England. On the 28th August 1914 he was posted Royal Garrison Artillery, school of gunnery, Shrewsbury.
He was promoted on the 27th November 1918 to Temporary Warrant Officer Class 2 Artificer and posted the same day to Shoeburyness. At the age of 50 he was demobilised on the 31st January 1920 at Shoeburyness to his home at 5 St Andrews Road Shoeburyness. In December 1944 he was living with his wife at 131 Richmond Avenue, Shoeburyness, Essex. He passed away on the 20th December 1944. His younger brother Albert served with the 5th Lancers.
Dorothy Mabel BOWLER. Daughter of Sergeant Albert Edward , Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders, died at Malta 7th January 1911 aged 5 months.

Albert Edward BOWLER. Born 1879 at Newcastle-upon-Tyne, Northumberland., Son of George and Sarah. In 1891 he was living with his parents and siblings at Thornbury, Gloucestershire.
He joined the army at Bristol on the 19th April 1898 aged 18 years and 11 months, occupation, a clicker in the shoe trade. He was posted to the 2nd Somerset Light Infantry, 5th Provisional Battalion. as private 5110. He was in South Africa (2nd Boer War) from the 4th November 1899 to 3rd May 1900. Promoted to Lance Corporal on the 30th January 1905. 1st February 1905 he was permitted at Plummer Barracks Crownhill, Plymouth to extend his service for a period of twelve years with the colours.
On the 10th January 1906 he married Miss Gwendoline Mabel Ball at the Registry Office, Devonport. 13th February 1907 he was promoted to corporal and on the 8th June 1906 he was transferred to the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders. While with the Argyll's he was promoted on the 12th June 1908 to Sergeant Shoemaker. On the 15th September 1909 he was posted to Malta with his wife and daughter Gwendoline Muriel Joy born at Crownhill on the 7th August 1906. They had another child in Malta, Dorothy Mabel born on the 23rd August 1910, baptised at Malta on the 11th September 1910 and died at Malta on the 7th January 1911. This child is at rest in Pieta Military Cemetery, Malta. He re-engaged with the Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders at Chatham on the 21st December 1912 to complete 21 service with the colours and was posted to the depot the same day. On the 2nd January 1913 he was transferred as Sergeant 2256 to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment. Posted to join the British Expeditionary Force, France from the 22nd August 1914, While in France he reported sick and was admitted into No 10 Casualty Clearing Station near Poperinghe. Transferred to Etaples suffering from synovitis of the right knee. Invalided to England on the 10th July 1915 on Hospital Ship Dieppe and admitted into The King George Hospital, location not recorded. At date not known he was discharged from hospital fit for war service and was given sick leave. On the 13th March 1916 he was transferred to the Royal Engineers as Sergeant 129537, on the 14th March 1916 he was posted back to France he was now serving with No 1 Special Coy, Mortar, Royal Engineers, at Herissart, France
On the 6th June 1917 he was promoted to Company Quartermaster Sergeant . 16th November 1918 promoted to Acting Company Sergeant Major with No 1 Special Coy, Royal Engineers, France. He reverts back to Company Quartermaster Sergeant on the 23rd December 1918. He was posted back to England on the 18th February 1919. On the 18th April 1919 he was discharged from the army on the termination of his 2nd period of service.
On the 8th August 1919 he re-joined the army for a period of 4 years, aged 40 years and 2 months. Occupation, shoemaker and he lived with his wife and family at Claremont House Truro, Cornwall. This time he joined the 1st Gloucestershire Regiment as Sergeant Master Shoemaker 5172885 at Catterick on the 9th August 1919. He was stationed at the following. Catterick 9th August 1919. Tidworth, 14th November 1919. Kilworth 18th December 1920. Looks like,Kantusk 2nd April 1921. Tidworth 2nd February 1922 and Cologne 12th July 1922. He was discharged on the 7th August 1923 He passed away in 1944 at Truro, Cornwall. His wife passed away on the 13th February 1963 aged 84 at the General Hospital, North Wing, Bedford. She lived at 45 Foster Road, Kempston, Bedfordshire. Her effects went to her widowed daughter Gwendoline Muriel Joy Beer. Her husband was called Ronald John H Beer.
Frederick George Howland (Freddy) ROSE. Son of Armourer Staff Sergeant Henry George and Catherine Rose nee Bunker, Army Ordnance Corps who died at Malta 17th November 1910 aged 3 months.

Henry George Rose born in 1873 at Camberwell, lived at Pimlico, London and was a gunsmith by occupation. His parents were William Henry and Francis Ann of 33 Redesdate Street, Kings Road, Chelsea, London. He served as an apprentice gunsmith for 4 years with Martini Henry Rifle Barrel Co

Some notes from what remains of his army records. He joined the Royal Army Ordnance Corps on the 10th January 1895 and was posted as Armourer Private 805 to the Corps of Ordnance Depot. On the 1st May 1895 he was transferred to Armourer Section Ordnance Store Corps. 17th May 1895 he was promoted to 2nd Class Armourer Sergeant. He was posted to be attached to the Royal Warwickshire Regiment as their armourer on the 29th October 1895 until the 10th April 1897.
He was awarded his first Good Conduct Badge on the 10th January 1897 and his second on the 10th January 1901. Promoted to Armourer Staff Sergeant on the 5th September 1901. Re-joined the Army Ordnance Corps Depot on the 27th February 1903. Posted to the Royal Engineers at Chatham for duty on the 1st April 1904. On the 9th August 1906 he re-engaged to complete 21 years army service. Posted as Armourer Staff Sergeant to the 1st Argyll and Sutherland Highlanders 20th September 1911. Promoted to Armourer 2 M Sergeant. On the 19th August 1912 he was posted to Malta for duty with his family.
While he was stationed in India he got married. On the 5th September 1899 at Madras India he married Miss Catherine Bunker. They had the following children- Frances Catherine Howland Bowler Rose, born on the 7th February 1902 at Belgaum, India . Henry William Howland Rose born on the 6th October 1903 at New Brompton, Kent, and Frederick George Howland Rose born on the 8th August 1910, in Malta baptised on the 21st August 1910 and died 17th November 1910 in Malta.
Overseas postings - Malta, 6th November 1895 to 20th January 1897. Egypt, 21st January 1897 to 17th October 1898. India 18th October 1898 to 26th February 1905. Uk - Malta 14th September 1909 to 15th September 1914. Uk - B.E.F. France 31st December 1914 to 9th January 1917.
He was at the Nile Expedition in 1898. Medals - Egyptian Sudan and Clasps for Attara and Khartum and the Queen's Sudan Medal.
His next of kin was his wife and she was living at 111 Camden Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent.
On the 30th December 1914 he embarked Southampton and disembarked at Harve the next day with 7 Coy, Army Ordnance Corps. He was promoted in the field on the 15th April 1916 to Acting Armourer Sergeant Major. Promoted to Temporary Warrant Officer Class 2 for the duration of the war. On the 20th March 1920 he was discharged on the termination of his 2nd period of service to his home at 3 Western Road, Tunbridge Wells, Kent. He died on the 15th December 1947 at St Nicholas Hospital, Tewson Road, Plumstead, Kent. He was living with his wife Catherine at 133 Samuel Street, Woolwich, Kent. His wife was born in 1878 at Paddington, London, daughter of Richard and Catherine Bunker.
