USS Sperry AS-12 (about 1973)

The Sperry is a submarine repair ship(decomissioned). Them keel was laid in 1939 and was the first ship comissioned after the attack on Pearl Harbor. It was a Diesel-Electric ship and had 8 GM 268A diesels for main engines. They were 12 cylinder V-blocks with a13 1/2 foot crankshaft that weighed a ton and a half. (I helped change one)
I goofed. The Main engines were V-16's (4 in each ER)and the auxillary engines were V-12s (2 in each ER). Hey, I only worked on them day in, day out for 3 1/4 years. camo;

I was wrong about the year taken, too. She is missing her 3 gun turrets (3 inch, I believe) so it was taken after being in the shipyards, which was either '74 or '75 {my memory is failing me :) }

USS Sperry (AS-12) was a Fulton-class submarine tender in the United States Navy. She was named for Elmer Sperry.
