Cadet Sergeant, Royal Irish Rifles from Belfast University Contingent Officers Training Corps (OTC) to be 2nd Lieutenant on probation 2 July 1913.
Special Reserve Royal Irish Rifles to be Adjutant 13 December 1915.
He was seconded (temporary assignment) as Captain for service with the Indian Army 2 April 1917
Captain Thomas Mathew Morton, 5th Battalion, The Royal Irish Rifles, attached 3rd Queen Alexandra's Own Gurkha Rifles. Dated 1st July 1917, but to rank from 5th May, 1917.
Birthday Honours List 19 December 1922 awarded the Military Cross. He was Captain with the 4/3rd Gurkha Rifles, Indian Army. His citation was not found in the London Gazette.
29 August 1939 Capt. (8187) late Indian Army to be Captain 29 August 1939, National Defence Companies.
