Sydney Chatterton CARTER. 2nd Lieutenant, 11th Sherwood Foresters. Born 1888 to William Chatterton Carter, Bank manager and Mary, nee Tweltridge. of Bank House, Ilkeston, Derbyshire. 1891 residing with his parents and siblings at William Road, West Bridgford, Nottinghamshire. 1901 residing with his parents and siblings at High Street, (Bank) Hucknall Torkard, Nottinghamshire. 1911 his father was residing at Bank House, Ilkeston, occupation, Bank Manager. He was married as Chatterton Carter at Ilkeston Oct-Dec 1914 to Elizabeth M Poole. Enlisted as Private 1778, 20th London Regiment, transferred as Private 530423, Royal West Kent Regiment. Gained his commission and posted to the 11th Sherwood Foresters 12 June 1916. Fell at the battle of the Somme 3 July 1916 aged 28 years.
Commemorated on a family memorial in Park Cemetery, Ilkeston.
