Acting Pilot Officer, Pilot, John Owen SOWERBUTTS Royal Air Force was killed in an accident which occurred near Middleton-in-Teeside, Durham on 26th October 1936 to an aircraft of No34 Bomber Squadron, Upper Heyford, Oxfordshire The crew comprising of A/C 1 William Ashbridge and A/C 2 Horace Redfern also died at the scene. He is at rest in Catterick Cemetery, Yorkshire
