Both were killed along with two others when the Puma helicopter they were flying in collided with a Gazelle helicopter who were both at the same time started their descent and night to the helicopter landing area at Bessbrook Mill army base, South Armagh Only the occupants of the Puma were killed the occupants of the Gazelle ahd major injuries.
