The Henschel Hs 123 was a German dive bomber used by the Luftwaffe during the first two years of World War II. Produced by Henschel, it entered service in 1936 as a maneuverable and reliable plane; however, it was soon overshadowed by the Junker Ju 87 Stuka, which joined the Luftwaffe the following year. The Hs 123 got its baptism of fire in Spain during the Spanish Civil War (1936-1939); it also saw combat action in Poland and in the campaign in the West in 1940, not only as a dive bomber but as a support or ground attack aircraft.
The Henschel Hs 123 was a single-engine biplane of all metal construction, with fabric covering used only for the rear portions of the wings and the control surfaces. The Hs 123A-1 version was powered by a BMW 132Dc radial, piston engine, delivering 880 horsepower, and was armed with two 7,92mm and could carry up to 450 kg of bombs. Specifications
