YATES, Samuel. Gunner 155670, Royal Garrison Artillery died 9th July 1920 aged 42. He was the son of Samuel and Mary Ann of Barracks Croft, near Warrington, Lancashire, and he was the husband of Lizzie Hankin Yates, nee Meeks, of Longford Cottages, Longford, near Warrington, Lancashire. His nephew, Samuel, also fell in the war. He is at rest in Christ Church churchyard, Croft, Lancashire.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 4th December 1915 and was then transferred into the Army reserve. He was aged 38 years and 11 months, lived with his wife and family at Longford Cottage, Orford, Lancashire. On the 18th April 1917 he was mobilized and posted to the Royal Garrison Artillery, Depot. On the 30th August 1917 he was declared a deserter and he was apprehended by the civil police on the 16th September 1917 and was admitted the same day to the Lord Derby War Hospital, Warrington, suffering from confusion. On the 13th July 1918 he was discharged from the army under Para 392 (XVI) King\'s Regulations. suffering from confusional insanity. He was stationed at Dover with the 10th Battery, 2nd Reserve Brigade.
