ANDERSON Samuel Johnstone. Lance Corporal 11767, 6th, The Border Regiment, died 13th September 1915, aged 22 years. He was the son of John and Jane Anderson, of 10 North Street, Annan, Dumfriesshire, Scotland.
THIRKELL Graham Jeffrey, Private, 2136, B Squadron, City of London Yeomanry (Rough Riders), died 13th September 1915, aged 27 years. He was the son of Sidney Thomas and Emma Thirkell.
GARDINER Clarence Edward. Private, 1228, 5th, Australian Infantry. Died of his wounds, 11th September 1915, aged 21 years. He was the son of William and Edith Gardiner, of Weldborough, Tasmania.
Some notes from his army record. He joined up on the 26th October 1914 aged 20 years and 6 months and was by occupation a miner. He embarked to join the Callipoli Campaign in Alexandria on the 5th April 1915. On the 22nd August 1915 he received a gunshot wound to his head at Anzac and was admitted to Brown's Depot Dressing Station. The same day he was transferred to 1st Australian Casualty Clearing Station with bomb injuries to his head, left arm and leg. On the 31st August 1915 he was transferred to Malta on Hospital Ship, Ascania and admitted to Tigne Hospital, Sliema where he died of his wounds on the 11th September 1915. He was buried later that day at Pieta New Military Cemetery, by Chaplin E E Smith.
