HARTLEY, Samuel. Private 2502, 2/7th Cheshire Regiment died 27th November 1918. (Medal Card)Enlisted on the 24th October 1914, discharged from the army due to sickness on the 13th May 1916 as being no longer physically fit for war service, Para 392 (XVI) Kings Regulations. He is at rest Macclesfield Cemetery Cheshire.
Some notes from what remains of his army record.
He enlisted on the 24th October 1914 aged 27 and posted to the 7th Cheshire Regiment. On the 15th January 1916 he was posted to the 46th Provinical Battalion. He was living with his wife, Annie Beatrice and their daughter, Gladys, born 22nd October 1912 at 14, Statham Street, Macclesfield. He was employed as a cotton weaver in a local cotton mill. Some notes from his Medical Board dated 22nd April 1916. Cause of discharge. Physically unfit. Flatfoot, Anaemia and enlarged thyroid. Originated July 1915 at Northampton. The arches of both feet are gone. He is very pale and anaemic and conjunctival is pale. The heart sounds are closed. The result of ordinary military service, excessive strain result of route marches. Permanent.
