Gunner 189749 Samuel Broadbent CHILLINGWORTH. Royal Field Artillery who fell on 12th August 1917 near Ypres. Dedicated by his granddaughters. Janet Fleming, Hazel Smith and Lesly Shahrokh. At rest in Vlamertinghe New Military Cemetery, West-Vlaanderen, Belgium. This memorial plaque is at the National Memorial Arboretum, Alrewas, Staffordshire

Additional Information. CWGC and Ancestry. Gunner 189749 Samuel CHILLINGWORTH. D Battery, 108th Brigade, Royal Field Artillery, killed in action 12th August 1917. Native of Warrington, Lancashire. In 1911 he was living with his parents John Thomas and Harriet Chillingworth, formerly Broadbent nee Clark at 66 Chalford Street Camp Hill Birmingham, Warwickshire. His occupatio aged 17, Apprentice engraver. His father was an Army Pensioner. His widow Elizabeth, nee Bunn was granted a war gratuity on the 24th November 1917, revised 4th December 1919.

He joined up on the 24th September 1914 aged 59 years and 84 days as Acting Quartermaster Sergeant 2492 Royal Warwickshire Regiment. He had previously served in The Kings Liverpool Regiment serving 3yrs and 8 months in India and Malta Garrison 4 years and 2 months. 26th October 1914 promoted to Regiment Quartermaster Sergeant . On the 13th June 1917 transferred to 33 Training Reserve Battalion as RQMS TR/8/23, later posted to 36 T.R.B. On the 28th June 1917 he was on medical board, medically discharged to pension suffering from arterial selerosis to his home at 39 Mosely Road, Balsall Heath, Birmingham. He was married to Harriet Broadbent, widow at Warrington Parish Church, Cheshire on the 28th April 1887
