- WALMSLEY, Roy Basford. Paymaster, Sub Lieutenant HMS Cleopatra, Royal Navy died 11th February 1942 aged 20. Son of Comdr. Wilfred Walmsley, R.N., and May Walmsley, of Esher, Surrey.
HISCOCK, William Ewart G.C., D.S.C. Lieutenant Commander HMS St Angelo. Born 13th January 1886 in Dorchester. He and his wife Alice Beatrice were in their house during an air raid on Malta on 14 February 1942. She was killed that day and he died the next day, 15th February, aged 56.
The following details are given in the London Gazette of June 12th, 1942 -
;The King has been graciously pleased to approve the award of the George Cross for great gallantry and undaunted devotion to duty to Lieutenant (Acting Lieutenant-Commander) William Ewart Hiscock, D.S.C., R.N.; Lt. Cdr. Hiscock was given the task of disarming an Italian torpedo mine which had fallen in 12 feet of water in St. Georges Bay, Malta during September 1941. At that time no information was available of this type of mine, therefore it was of considerable danger. Together with his assistant Petty Officer C. Le Bargy, D.S.M., Hiscock managed to defuse the bomb even though it had started ticking and could have exploded at any second.
His wife Alice Beatrice Hiscock is at rest in this cemetery Plot G Grave 142.
RICKARDS, Richard Millett, Lieutenant, HMS Xmas died 27th February 1942 aged 23. Son of Thomas Millett Rickards and Mary Leburn Rickards, of Wentworth, Surrey.
