ROBERTS, John Morley

Private 80176 John Morley ROBERTS, 53rd Welsh Regiment died 26th October 1918 aged 18. He was the son of John Henry and Nellie Overton of "Shirley", High Knott Road, Arnside. He is at rest in Arnside Cemetery, Westmorland. Some notes from what remains of his Army record. He joined up on the 11th October 1918 aged 18yrs and 14 days. He was employed prior to enlistment as a bank clerk and gave his mother as his next of kin. He was posted to 53rd Y.S. Battalion Training Reserve Welsh Regiment at Kinmel Park Army Camp, Bodelwyddan near Rhyl North Wales (It is still being used as a training camp ) At 2445 hours on the 26th October 1918 he died from influenza at Military Hospital, Kinmel Park Army Camp. The Special Death Report dated 28th October 1918 stated the following " Death due to influenza complicated by Broncho Pneumonia and Cardiac failure attributable to ordinary Military Service (Infection during Epidemic at Kinmel Park, Camp)".
