13 December 1916 he joined up aged 17 years and 11 months as Private No. 38697 Training Reserve, occupation loader.
21 July 1917 he was transferred to 7th West Yorkshire Regiment as Private No. 58677.
17 January 1918 until his death he was in France.
A war gratuity was awarded to his mother Mary 13 March 1919.
Commemorated at Pozieres Memorial, Somme, France.

18 August 1915 he joined the Royal Engineers aged 47, occupation labourer.
25 August 1915 he was in France.
15 March 1918 he was transferred to Home Establishment as over age.
16 March 1918 he left France.
17 March 1918 he was posted to Southern Coy, Labour Corp. as Private.
6 May 1918 he was on a Medical Board, discharged with a disability – myalgia, caused by Army service. No longer physically fit for service.
