Robert Ernest Reade D.S.O. Lieutenant, 1st Battalion Kings Royal Rifle Corps
Born 18 April 1879, second son of R H Reade D.L. of Wilmot County Antrim and Dorothea Emily Florence, nee Robbins. Died 4 February 1901 of wounds received in an encounter with the Boers at Boschmanfontein in the Transvaal 2 February.

London Gazette dated 1 August 1899.
The King's Royal Rifle Corps, Second Lieutenant Robert Ernest Reade (University Candidate), from 4th Volunteer Battalion the Suffolk Regiment, to be Second Lieutenant, vice IT. G. Howard, deceased. Dated 2nd August, 1899.

London Gazette dated 10 July 1900
The King's Royal Rifle Corps, Second Lieutenant R. E. Reade to be Lieutenant, vice E. F. Ward, promoted. Dated 24th May, 1900.

London Gazette dated 19 April 1901.
The following appointments to the Distinguished Service Order, and promotions in the Army, to be granted in recognition of the services of the undermentioned Officers in connection with the Campaign in South Africa, 1899-1900, dated 29th November, 1900, except where otherwise stated. Lieutenant Robert Ernest Reade, the King's Royal Rifle Corps (since killed in action).
