Killed in action in France 3 June 1918 aged 31
Some notes from his army record.
Joined 10 November 1914 into the 30th Battalion, Canadian Infantry aged 28 years and 7 months at Private 77081, occupation, surveyor. Served previously in the Militia, 88th Volunteer Force.
Mother was next of kin, resided at 2 Sunnyside Terrace, Downshire Road, Holywood. Previous address, 39 Orient Gardens, Belfast.
4 May 1915 transferred to the 7th Battalion in France.
5 June 1915 Received a gunshot wounds to his left arm and chest wall on the front at Bethune. Treated by an RAMC orderly, with a field dressing. 29 June 1915 transferred to Voluntary Aid Hospital, Orpington. After treatment and sick leave he was posted back to his unit in France 3 August 1915. Field promotion to Lance Corporal 12 January 1916.
6 June 1916 reported missing, believed killed in action.
Commemorated on a family headstone in Old Priory Churchyard, Holywood, opposite the cemetery County Down, also on the Menin Gate Memorial, Ypres, Belgium.
