RECCE Troop 40 Commando Royal Marines provide a demonstration of a river crossing
Sierra Leone, on the tip of West Africa, is slowly recovering after years of civil war. Its government is willing to engage with its partners, Britain being one of them, in a bid to rebuild institutions such as the security forces, helping ensure that the 10-year civil war, which ended with the signing of a peace agreement in 2001, does not flare up again.
Exercise Green Eagle saw well over 3,000 British military personnel taking part in the Royal Navy's largest amphibious deployment since 2001. As well as building defence relations the exercise demonstrated the UKs ability to conduct joint operations, coastal and beach operations in challenging hot equatorial and jungle environments.
