Old Soldier (Charge of the Light Brigade)

This monument was erected by subscription
to the memory of Samuel POTTER of Lichfield
late Burton on Trent who took part with the
4th Light Dragoons in the memorable charge
at Balaclava, died on the 20th February 188 aged 60
Honor the charge they made noble six hundred
Born 1833 at Lichfield, occupation Potter
Enlisted 8th February 1851 at Lichfield aged 18
His army number was 1480.
From 1851 to 1855 his rank was private
1860 rank sergeant
4th February 1860, bought himself out of
the army for 20 pounds


Buried in Stapenhill Cemetery, Burton on Trent, Staffordshire
