Pearl Steadman GOODMAN

Pearl Stella GOODMAN. Staff Nurse AANS.

Born 1886 at Millthorpe, Orange, New South Wales, Australia.

Trained at Orange District Hospital
Embarked Sydney December 1916 on SS Themistocles for England. Date not known was posted to Rouen in France. She fell ill and was diagnosed with pulmonary tuberculosis. She was invalided to England for treatment, then sent to her home in Australia December 1917. Medically discharge from the army 15 August 1918. She then spent time in Prince Alfred Hospital, knitting socks for soldiers until she became too weak to continue.

Died at Malabar Convalescent Home, Pennant Hills, Newtown, New South Wales, Australia, 6 March 1919 aged 33 years.

She was laid to rest at Rookwood Cemetery with military honours; her cousin, Rev. Robert Goodman officiated at the graveside. Her name appears on Memorial Gates in both Millthorpe and Cairns.
