1914-1918
ALLEN, George Samuel Pte 136973, 8th Machine Gun Corps did in Munster Hospital 11 Sept 1918, age 19. Son of John and Fanny of Owls Clough, Oakamoor. Buried in Cologne Southern Cemetery, Germany.
AMOS, John William Lance Corporal 96003, 10th Platoon, C, Coy 10th Sherwood Foresters killed in action 22 March 1918 age 22. Son of Arthur James and Isabella of Consall nr Cheadle Staffs Native of Hollington, Staffs. Enlisted 3rd December 1915 occupation was a Bricklayers Labourer and at the time of enlistment he was lodging J Budd and his family at Canbank Fram, Oakamoor. His sister Doroth Amos of 43 High Bank Overton, Opershaw, Manchester was his next of kin. Commemorated on the Arras Memorial, France.
BIRKS, Reginald Pioneer GR/210654, Royal Engineers died in hospital 14 Feb 1919 age 20. Son of Mr and Mrs Peter Birks, Gate House, Oakamoor. Buried in Oakamoor Chapelyard.
BOLTON, Gilbert Benson Lieutenant, 8th North Staffordshire Regiment died at Grandcourt, 18 Nov 1916 aged 27. Native of Cheadle Staffordshire. Son of Thomas and Nina of The Light Works, Oakamoor. Buried in Connaught Cemetery, Thiepval, France.
BRETT, Joseph William Pte, 13747 Grenadier Guards died in hospital, 28 Nov 1918 Buried in Uplands Cemetery, Smethwick.
CARTLIDGE, Harold Private 39121 4th North Staffordshire Regiment killed in action at Ypres, Belgium 2 Dec 1917 aged 20 Native of Cheadle, Staffordshire and enlisted at Oakamoor. Son of Herbert and Anne Cartledge, of 3, The Island, Oakamoor. Commemorated on the Tyne Cot Memorial, Belgium (CWGC have CartlEdge).
FEARNS, Thomas Pte 23455, 10th Royal Welsh Fusiliers killed in action 16 May 1915. Son of John of Monestone, Oakamoor. Commemorated on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
GREEVES, Arthur Frederick Wellesley 2nd Lt, 8th North Staffs Regt died of wounds at Ypres, Belgium 20 Sept 1917, age 26 Son of Rev Arthur Wellesley and Eliza Marie Ellis Greeves. of 53 Newlands Road, High West Jesmond, Newcastle on Tyne. Buried in La Clytte Military Cemetery, Belgium.
GREEVES, John Wellesley 2nd Lieutenant, 5th North Staffordshire Regiment killed in action at Lens, 1st July 1917 aged 24. Son of Rev Arthur Wellesley and Eliza Marie Ellis Greeves. (Birth registered as John) Commemorated on the Loos Memorial, France.
McKNIGHT, Edward David Lance Corporal 51197, 2nd Lincolnshire Regiment killed in action at Cambrai, France 29 Sept 1918. buried in Gauzeaucourt New British Cemetery, France.
