My Uncle Jack

I had mentioned before that my family, on my fathers side, has deep and strong ties to Great Britain with Ireland and Scotland in particular. I was going thru some of my fathers stuff and found some pictures. This one is of his brother Jack Farnie. In the late 1930s when it looked apparent that England would have to go to war with Germany, my father and his four brothers left the United States to volunteer for service in Great Britains armed forces. One joined the Royal Navy and the other three joined the army. My father went also but was turned down by the Royal Navy because two of the fingers of his left hand were cutoff down to the first joint because of an accident at work. He was a carpenter and losing fingers was an occupational hazard. My uncle Jack fought at Dunkirk where he was wounded in the eye and hand. He was with the East Lancashire Regiment serving in B Company under Capt. H.M. Ervine Andrews who was awarded the VC for the same action at Dunkirk.

A wonderful photo Bill, anybody that fought at Dunkirk is a hero in my book, so I have put this picture in its rightful place sal; army;

Excellent photo Bill, must bring back a lot of memories looking through your father's stuff.
