My Uncle David

Once again, another of my fathers four brothers my Uncle David Farnie. Uncle David, with my father and his three other brothers, traveled to England to join the armed forces of Great Britain before America entered the war.

There isn't much information on my Uncle David in my fathers belongings so can anyone tell me what the insignia on his collar and hat is? Is it a regimental crest or branch insignia? I would like to find out what it represents.

No buddy, the only significance re the kings crown is that we had a king when your uncle served as a medic, as opposed to medics badges now which would bare a queens crown.

And yes mate, he is wearing a medics uniform he was indeed a medic, at the time of this photo at least.

Oops sorry mate, I dont know how old I thought your uncle was. Your right WWII was King George the VI

King George the V was WWI

Hi Bill,

Glad you enjoyed your trip to the RAMC Museum site

The RAMC badge or any medical insignia usually
has a snake entwined around a staff.

The staff represents the Staff of Life.

The snake because it was believed to hold healing properties.
