In order to create a mobile light anti-aircraft defence against Luftwaffe attacks the Morris C9 chassis was adapted to carry the excellent Bofors 40mm gun. The vehicle was created for the Normandy campaign on the presumption that the German response would be stronger than it turned out to be. Nevertheless, it proved invaluable in protecting key hubs and road crossings and, as the campaign developed, it began to be used in the ground support role to support the infantry.
