Macon Alston GUNTER. 2nd Lieutenant 0-662922. United States Army Air Force 98th Bombardment Group stationed at RAF Ta Kali, Malta. Part of crew of Maybelle B-17 Flying Fortress. Born 7 June 1920 to Macon Alston (Sr) and Missouri Belle Gunter. 1930 - 1940 residing with his parents and siblings at Mignonette Street, Kosse, Limestone, Texas. Killed during a bombing raid over Sicily 2 July 1943.

Laid to rest in Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Malta 5 July 1943 aged 23 in Plot E. Grave 21.
Now at rest in Gunter Cemetery, Limestone County, Texas, USA

It was on July 4 that Lt. Macon A. Gunter Jr. first pilot, was killed by an
attacking ME-109 in the raid on the Gerbini Satellite No. 1. His co-pilot, Lt. Shaw took the ship into Malta where Lt. Gunter was given a funeral with full military honours and buried. Lt. Gunter held the universal respect and affection of the men in the Squadron.
