Lockett Thomas DCM MM

Extended Description
Private 8912, and then WOII 1st South Staffordshire Regiment. He is mentioned on his wife's memorial at Cheslyn Hay Cemetery, Staffordshire

8912 Sergeant (A./C.S.M.) T. Lockett, M.M., 1st South Staffordshire Regiment. (Cheslyn Hay).
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. He crossed a river in front of our
lines alone and secured a rope to the far bank, but while he was returning to fetch
the remainder of his patrol the rope gave way, aud he was carried away by the stream.
Nevertheless,, on the following night he again crossed the river and fixed a rope to
the far bank, which enabled patrols to get across. He afterwards led patrols across the
river with great skill on three occasions, and obtained valuable information. He set a
magnificent example of determination and initiative

He was awarded the DCM in 1918 London Gazette dated 1.5.1918
