He was the husband of Jane, formerly Anderson of 30, Churchill Road, Newtown, Great Yarmouth. whom he married at Shoeburyness Essex on the 27th May 1905. Buried in St Alban churchyard, Forest Town, Nottinghamshire. He enlisted into the army on the 6th August 1893 at the age of 20 in Liverpool and was the son of Sarah of Elland, Halifax. He served in India and was awarded to Long Service and Good Conduct medal

Joined the army aged 20, served in India, had Malaria and a mild attack of Enteric Fever (typhoid and paratyphoid). He was employed as Cook Sergeant in the beginning of this year (1916) while with his battalion at Great Yarmouth where he began to feel unwell with slight cough and breathlessness on exertion. Since coming to Clipstone at the end of September he has become worse and was admitted to this hospital in the camp on the 22nd September 1916. On the 6th November 1916 he was transferred to an Isolation Hospital where he died on the evening of the 24th January 1917 at 9-10 pm (21.10hrs)
Condition. Cyanotic and jaundiced, orthopnoea, dropsy of the lower part of his body. His condition over a period worsened and he died.
He was at Clipstone Military Training Camp which was not far from this church

Buried in Forest Town Churchyard, Mansfield, Nottinghamshire
