Letter of Commendation

Facsimile of letter written by Lt. Colonel Patrick Cassidy, 101st Airborne Division, commending the actions of Sgt. McRory, Guards Armoured Division, in supporting U.S. airborne forces during the 'Market Garden' operation.

The text of the letter reads:-

Dated 20 Sept 1944

To: General-in-Command
20 Armd Bn, Irish Guards
Guards Armd Div, BLA

It is with great pleasure that I commend Sgt McRory for his excellent performance yesterday. Although his tank was operating only on a leg and a half, Sgt McRory took right off for the Jerries and thru his aggressiveness & skill, we were able to kill about 35, wound about 50, & capture 50 prisoners and knock out two AT guns.
His daring, skill, and fighting spirit was inspiring. He is a credit to his Battalion, his country and the allied armies.
Should he ever desire to do so, there is a spot waiting for him in this battalion. He's 'our boy'.

Great letter, its good to see a letter such as this. It shows that although we fully appreciate the help of the US during the war, they also recognise the true grit, courage and determination of the people they were helping. Wonderful stuff buddy.

Just one thing about it that puzzles me - does anyone know what the 'BLA' in the address means? Probably 'British' something, but I can't work out the rest.
