Lance Corporal Nigel Robert Smith
lcpl Smith was D Company 2 Para and
was killed by small arms fire along with Cpl sullivan and Lt Barry whilst attempting an Argentine Surrender.
Lcpl Smith is buried at Aldershot Military Cemetary
Following The Argentine invasion of The Falkland Islands in 1982, a British Task Force, which included several Airborne Troop Elements, was rapidly assembled to retake the island. On the 26th May, 2 Para was orfered to move south and engage the Argentinian Strategic Reserve and airfield at Darwin/Goose Green Penisular.
The Attack began between the early hours of 28th May with Naval and Artillery Support. The Assult continued with some ferocious trench to trench fighting, and by last light the whole penisular less the The Goose Green settlement was taken. Negotiations with the Argintinians, produced there surrender the next day
