L221 HORACE ALFRED VENESS. Sick Berth Petty Officer MX52881, on HMS Goldfinch stationed at Royal Naval Air Station Ta Kali. Born 12 April 1916 registration district of Woolwich. Died in Royal Naval Hospital, Bighi, Malta Thursday 11th March 1948 aged 31 years of poisoning by phenobarbitone due to an overdose of the sedative which caused asphyxia. “Always lovingly remembered by his mother and family at Hastings." Wills and Admin, Ancestry - His residence in England was 53 Milward Road Hastings, died at place and date stated. His effects went to Winifred Ethel Beaney, married woman.

London Gazette dated 5 July 1940 - Mentioned in Despatches for good service off the Dutch Coast. Sick Berth Attendant Horace Alfred Veness D/MX52881 on HMS Furious plus others.

At rest in Plot L, Grave 221 Capuccini Naval Cemetery, Kalkara, Malta.
