On sunday the 8th January 1989 a Boeing 737 aircraft with 126 passangers and crew with seconds to the runway, crashed onto the North bound embankment of the M1 killing 47, five of whom were service personnel from Northern Ireland, their names are as follows;
WO1 24091783, David HASTINGS Royal Army Pay Corps, Born 9th August 1946 and died aged 42, He is at rest at Yew Tree Brake, Cemetery, Mile End, Coleford, Gloucestershire
Corporal 24694354, Timothy John HICKS, Royal Military Police born 24th March 1963 died aged 25.
Lance Corporal WO478083, Judith Ann PATTISON, Womens Royal Army Corps, born 6th December 1966, died aged 22. At rest at Colchester Crematorium
Sergeant R8086105, Richard RAMSAROOP, Royal Air Force, stationed at RAF Aldergrove, Northern Ireland, born 9th May 1953, died aged 35. At rest at Old Cemetery, Forest Hill, East Dulwich, London
Private 24705813, Jonathan Edwin TURNER, Royal Pioneer Corps, born 5th November 1961, died aged 27
Constable John Thomas CAMPBELL. Royal Ulster Constabulary aged 31 years.
His wife, Woman Constable Karin Jacqueline CAMPBELL, Royal Ulster Constabulary aged 26 years.
Both at rest in Roselawn Cemetery, 127 Ballygowan Road, Belfast
The Kegworth air disaster occurred on 8 January 1989 when British Midland Flight 92, a Boeing 737400, crashed onto the embankment of the M1 motorway near Kegworth, Leicestershire, UK. The aircraft was attempting to conduct an emergency landing at East Midlands Airport. Of the 126 people aboard, 47 died and 74, including seven members of the flight crew, sustained serious injuries.
