CLEWORTH Joshua Richard. Private 15721, 8th King\'s Own Royal Lancashire Regiment died 25th November 1918 aged 21. He was the son of James and Alice Cleworth and he was the husband of Elizabeth Whittle (formerly Cleworth), of 402, Warrington Rd, Culcheth, near Warrington, Lancashire. He is at rest in Newchurch, churchyard, Culcheth, Lancashire.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted on the 16th November 1914 aged 19 years and 5 months. He lived with parents at 168, bent Lane, Culcheth and was by occupation a driller. On the 17th November 1914 he was posted to the depot for training and on the 27th September 1915 he was in France. On the 16th July 1916 in France he was shot in the left thigh and leg. On the 25th May 1917 he was on a Medical Board when he was medically discharged as being no longer physically fit for war service. He was permanently excluded from liability to medical re-examination under the military Service (Review of Exceptions) Act 1917.
