GREEN Joseph Sidney. Private, 28875, 7th Battalion, Oxford and Buckingham Light Infantry, Taken ill in Salonika and died 17th April 1918 in Malta. Son of Joseph and Mary Elizabeth of 37, Newtown Row, Birmingham. Husband of Olive Edith. Nee Jackson of 346b Summer Lane, Birmingham. They were married on the 4th March 1912, he was aged 23 and she 22. One of God's best, never forgotten.

RICHARDS John Jones. Private, S/307504, Station Supply Coy., Royal Army Service Corps. Taken ill in Egypt and died 15th April 1918 in Imtarfa Military Hospital, Malta. Husband of Florence.
Some notes from what remains of his arm records
He joined up on the 8th November 1915. aged 28, butcher by trade and lived with his wife at 30, Pembroke Terrace Penarth. He married Miss Florence James at Cardiff Registry Office on the 4th November 1912. His parents John Jones and Eliza Richards lived at 11 Stanwell Avenue, Penarth. He remained in England from the 8th November 1915 until he embarked from Southampton on the 26th June 1917, disembarking at Cherbourg on the 27th. From there he proceeded by train to Taranto, Italy, embarking on S,S, Saxon from Taranto, disembarking at Salonica on the 15th July 1917. The same day he joined 3rd Base, Horst Transport Depot. On the 9th December 1917 he was admitted into 61st General Hospital suffering from dysentery and malaria. Transferred to 42nd General Hospital on the 16th November 1917, invalided to Malta and admitted on the 11th February 1918 into Imtarfa Military hospital. He died in this hospital of dysentery and malaria.

MARSDEN Amos. Private, 7373, 1st Battalion, York and Lancaster Regiment, died 14th April 1918. He was born in 1885 at Parkgate, Yorkshire to Walter and Phoebe of 86 Bear Tree Road, Parkgate, Rotherham, Yorkshire. On the 9th October 1908 he married Rachel Ball at Grittenham Registry Office. In 1911 he was living with his wife at 138 Pottery Street, Rawmarsh, Rotherham, and was working as a coal miner. Their children were named as, Julia, born 29th July 1912 and Celia Elizabeth born 25th August 1914. born at 7 Faith Street, Monk Bretton. His parents in 1911 were living at 86 Bear Tree Road, Parkgate, Rotherham.
Some notes from what remains of his army records. He joined up aged 18 years and 6 months at Pontefract on the 10th August 1903. occupation, miner and living with his parents at 86 Bear Tree Road, Parkgate. He served in India from the 28th February 1905 to 20th April 1906. Had a bout of dysentery while in India from the 30th June 1905 to 11th July 1905, then returned to England. He was transferred to the army reserve from the 10th August 1906 to 4th August 1914 when he was mobilised. The 8th September 1914 he embarked for France while there he suffered from frostbite. On the 4th February 1915 to 6th September 1915 he was in England, possibly receiving treatment for his frostbite, In England he was in the regiment's guard room on the 19th April 1915 awaiting for his District Court Martial which was held on the 26th April 1915. He was charged with striking his superior officer. He was sentenced to 6 months detention. To detention on the 3rd May 1915 and released on the 25th July 1915 back to his battalion, the 3rd. 7th August 1915 posted back to France. On the 24th October 1915 he embarked from Marseilles for the Mediterranean, disembarking at Alexandria on the 6th November 1915 (in transit). On the 1st November 1915 he embarked Alexandria, disembarking at Salonika on the 4th December 1915. On the 14th January 1916 while serving with the 1st Battalion he was awarded 7 days No 1 Field Punishment in the field (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Field_punishment)
On the 18th August 1916 he was to continue in the service under Military Service Act (Session 2), from the date stated. (http://www.1914-1918.net/msa1916-2.html) On the 6th August he fell sick again this time with Malaria. He was treated at 86 Field Ambulance, transferred to Malta on Hospital Ship, Dunluce Castle on the 17th September 1916, admitted in to Tigne Hospital, Malta on the 20th September. On the 14th October 1916 it appears he may have been transferred to All Saints Convalescent Camp, Malta. On the 1st November 1916 he was discharged from All Saints fit for duty and was sent back to Salonica on S.S. Abbassina, disembarked in Salonica on the 26th November 1917. He was attached to 6th Entrenching Battalion on the 21st January 1917. Again he fell ill with malaria and was admitted to 66 Field Ambulance, Salonica on the 10th June 1917, same day transferred to 31 Casualty Clearing Station, and then onto 5th General Hospital, Salonica. 26th July 1917 sent to No2 Convalescent Hospital, Salonica, 10th August 1917 discharged to 2nd Base Depot, Salonica. He joined his unit on the 28th August in the field. The 19th September 1917 fell ill and was admitted into 86 Field Ambulance with malaria. 21st September admitted into 25th Casualty Clearing Station, 22nd admitted into 42 General Hospital, Salonica. 30th admitted into 29th General Hospital. On the 10th October he was at No 1 Casualty Clearing Station and was discharged to 2nd Base Depot some days later. (The lower part has been damaged by water, but it appears he fell ill again. He was at 84 Field Ambulance, then 2? Casualty Clearing Station. On the 23rd February 1918 he was transferred to Malta on Hospital Ship Bramar Castle admitted into Imtarfa Hospital on the 4th March 1915. His condition deteriorated, seriously ill on the 5th March, dangerously ill on the 11th and he died on the 14th April of Dysentery and Malaria.
