MURPHY, Joseph. Private 5540, 3rd Connaught Rangers, died 3rd June 1917 aged 30. He was born in County Antrim, Ireland and he lived at Glasgow, Scotland He is at rest Macclesfield Cemetery Cheshire.
SHAW, Arthur Henry William. Private TR2/21700, 44th Training Reserve Battalion, died 29th May 1919 aged 19. He is at rest Macclesfield Cemetery Cheshire.
Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted aged 18 on the 28th May 1917 at Gowley Barracks, Oxfordshire. He lived at Bucklow Union Workhouse and by occupation was a gardener. He had previously served 2 months as Private 11333, West Kent Regiment. His next of kin was his mother Annie He was medically discharged on the 9th October 1917 after serving 137 days into the care of sister, Miss Annie Shaw c/o Mrs Bostock, 22, Silkmill Street, Knutsford, Cheshire. He was admitted into Sutton Veny Military Hospital, Wiltshire on the 17th August 1917 and was then transferred to Tidworth Military Hospital, Oxfordshire on the 19th September 1917. Some notes from his Medical Board, dated 17th September 1917. Cause of discharge. Mental deficiency. It originated at Knutsford and was not the result of or aggravated by military service.
