Joseph Henry ROWLEY

Private 3408, Joseph Henry ROWLEY, 1/6th Sherwood Foresters.
Born at Ambergate Derbyshire to 1889 to Joseph and Mary of Clay Lane, Clay Cross, Derbyshire. 1891 with his parents and siblings at Midland Cottages (Railway property) at Hesket in the Forest, Cumberland. 1901 at Clay Lane, Clay Cross. 1911 serving as Private in the 1st Sherwood Foresters. Died 3rd March 1918 aged 29 after discharge from the army. At rest in Clay Cross Cemetery, Derbyshire.

Some notes from his Army Record.
Previously enlisted 11 June 1907 and served with the 1st Notts and Derby Regiment. He was invalided from India to England suffering from a nervous breakdown for 2 years and 6 months.
Re-enlisted, (Embodied service) at Clay Cross aged 26 years on the 28th October 1914, occupation as Fireman. He served in France from the 28th February 1915 to the 7th January 1916. Medical Board 13th January 1916, discharged no longer medically fit. He had a recurrent Mania, which started December 1915 in France, not the result of military service. It was the same complaint he had when he invalided from India in 1911. Discharged to pension 25 January 1916.
