Joseph Cosgrave SAVAGE. Rifleman 12417, B Coy, 8th Royal Irish Rifles.
Born 26 December 1873 at Stewarts Place, Holywood to James and Eliza Savage, nee Agnew of 22, High Street. Holywood, Co. Down.
Husband of Annie Isabella Savage, nee Roberts. who he married 24 May 1897 at Ballygilbert, Bangor, County Down.
At the time of death his wife and children were residing at 42, Epworth Street., Belfast.
Killed in action at the battle of the Somme, 2 July 1916 aged 42. His widow was granted a war gratuity 10 January 1917 revised 29 October 1919.
Commemorated on family headstone in Holywood Cemetery, Holywood, County Down, also on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
