Malta Times, Wednesday 25 December 1856
Murder of two soldiers in Malta.
1/28th Gloucestershire Regiment
On the night of Thursday last (18th) at half past nine o'clock a soldier of the 28th Regt named Charles Touch was found lying in the street near the Carmelite Church in Strade Teatro, Valetta with a knife wound in the abdomen from which the bowels protruded, He was at once conveyed to the principal police station whence, after receiving medical assistance was carried to the Military Hospital in Strada Mercanti. The same night another soldier named Charles Touch of the 28th was found lying dead on the bastion near Queen Adelaide's Church. At first it was thought he had laid down in a fit of intoxication. A post mortem examination held in the military hospital found a knife wound in his back which penetrated the aorta and other vital parts which produced instant death.
No known grave.
