Squadron Leader John North Hewlett BROOKE No. 76421 Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve
Died 6 June 1942 aged 45

Son of Joseph Hewlett and Mary Beatrice Brooke, husband of Cecilia Brooke, of Fareham, Hampshire. Also served in the R.F.C. in the 1914-18 War.

At rest at Haresfield St Peter Churchyard, Gloucestershire.

John North Hewlett Brooke (late Cadet Corporal, Haileybury College Contingent,
Junior Division, Officers Training Corps). Dated 26th October, 1914.

His accident -

Lieutenant , Pilot with King’s Liverpool Regiment attached to Royal Air Force was slightly injured as the result of a plane crash 1 March 1919 at Kenley Surrey. He was attached to 7 Aircraft Acceptance Park Royal Flying Corps. On that day he was flying a Royal Aircraft Factory F.E.2 (Farman Experimental 2) (Role, Fighter/Reconnaissance, Night Bomber, built by Royal Aircraft Factory) when it crashed due to engine cutting out at low altitude. The machine stalled on trying to turn back into the aerodrome by gliding. The aircraft may have flipped on touch down. The other crew member Aircraftman W Hughes received a fractured leg . Both were admitted into Brook Hospital, Shooters Hill, Woolwich.
