John Mackey BRIGGS. Captain, Adjutant 18th (Reserve Battalion) Royal Irish Rifles. formerly (1911) Colour Sergeant with the 1st Norfolk Regiment. Born 1867 to Colonel John and Maria Anna Briggs nee Mackey. 1871 residing with his parents at Cambridge Barracks, High Street, Portsmouth.
1881 Pupil at Salt Hill Grammar School, Farnham Royal, Buckinghamshire
Husband of Frances E Briggs nee Turner of Glenside, Holywood.
Died at Holywood of enteric (typhoid) fever 2nd October 1916 aged 47.
The following is inscribed on his memorial
He completed 22 years with the Norfolk Regiment. Retired at Colour Sergeant 8 August 1913. His service included Matabele 1896. South Africa 1899-1902. Re-joined on the outbreak of Great War 1914. Performed invaluable service in training the 13th (Service) and 18th (Reserve) Batts, R.I. Rifles (Ulster Division). This memorial is erected by his comrades and friends
