Extended Description
Major, John Francis William Charley. 2nd in Command of the 1st (formerly 27th (Inniskilling) Regiment of Foot) Royal Inniskilling Fusiliers who fell at the battle of Colenso South Africa 15 December 1899. He died of wounds received at Shooters Hill at the battle of Colenso.

At rest in Military Cemetery and Garden of Remembrance Clouston south of the Tugela River near the village of Colenso.

Born 14 May 1857 at Woodburn County Antrim and eldest son to John Stouppe Charley and Mary Stewart nee Forster of Finaghy.
In loving memory this Tablet is erected by his moth, brother and sisters in this church (St Patrick) where his forefathers worshipped. His comrades said to him. A man whom it was good to know.

He is commemorated on a Tablet in St Patrick Church Drumbeg, County Antrim.
