Lieutenant John Denis POULTON
South Saskatchewan Regiment, Royal Canadian Infantry Corps
Died 10 April 1942 from a fracture of the skull and concussion due to being run into by a military motor cycle whilst on military duty as an umpire on the Eastbourne Road near Wilmington Cross Roads, Wilmington Sussex 10 April 1942. He was admitted at 11.43 pm to Princess Alice Memorial Hospital Eastbourne, but was dead on arrival. Two other soldiers were also injured, but not life threatening. The motorcyle ridden by a dispatch rider Norman Nixon who was from the 3rd Canadian Light Anti Aircraft Battery, 2nd Division.

Lieutenant Poulton was born 14 September 1906 possibly at North Nibley, baptised at the parish church, North Nibley on 23 December 1906. His parents were Albert William and Annie Kate Wotton Road, North Nibley. In 1911 he was residing with his parents and sister at Bradley Green, Wotton under Edge, Gloucestershire. His wife was Mildred Adeline Poulton, 29 Caroline Apartments, 1058 Nelson Street, Vancouver, British Columbia and his daughter was Margaret Jean Poulton.
