BUCHANAN John. Corporal 6418, 115th Horse Transport Coy. (ed Echelon) Wheel, 26th Divisional Train, Army Service Corps. He was taken ill at the Balkans and died in Malta 6th May 1917 aged 45. He was the son of Francis and Helen Buchanan, of Callander, Perthshire and was the husband of Margaret Buchanan, of 147, St. Leonards Street, Edinburgh. Some notes from what remains of his army records. He joined up at Edinburgh on the 2nd March 1915 aged 43 and 126 days. He was living at 21, Jamaica Street, Edinburgh and by occupation was a Shoeing Smith. He was married on the 24th June 1904 at Helensburgh to Miss Margaret Gilchrist McInnes. He embarked from Devonport on the 16th January 1916 on H T Bohomian bound for Salonica where he disembarked on the 31st January 1916. He was taken ill in Salonica on the 4th February 1917 and was admitted into No 5 Canadian General Hospital, Salonica suffering from Gastralgia. On the 28th March 1917 he was transferred to Military Hospital,Tigne, Malta on Hospital Ship, Valdivia. He died at 11-15am on the 6th May 1917 of Stricture of Oesophagus and Gastritis.
HOBSON William. Private 20588, 11th Scottish Rifles, Cameronians. He was wounded in Salonica died in Malta 13th May 1917 aged 31. He was the son of Mrs Jeania Hobson of 145, Coburg Street, South Side, Glasgow.
CHERRY William Robert. Sergeant 743, Foot Branch, Military Police Corps, Salonika lines of communications, He fell ill in Egypt and died in St Johns Hospital, Malta 8th May 1917. Husband of Mabel and son of Alfred and Jemima of 1, Woodgrange Cottages, Ilford . In 1911 aged 17 he was a private in the artillery and was stationed at Topsham Artillery Barracks, Heavitree, Devon.
