John Blakemore WILLIAMS

WILLIAMS, John Blakemore Died 7th December 1926 as the result of Malaria Fever contracted whilst serving with the Royal Army Service Corps in the East 1915 - 1919 aged 46. He was the son of John Blakemore and Martha of 202 Newhampton Road West, Wolverhampton. He is at rest with his parents in Merridale Cemetery, Wolverhampton. Some notes from what remains of his army record. He enlisted aged 33 years and 277days, lived at 202 Newhampton Road West, Wolverhampton and he was a fitter by trade. He had previously served with the 4th Shropshire Regiment, (Territorial) his period of engagement had expired. On the 13th August 1915 he was posted as Private M2/116831, Royal Army Service Corps, (Mechanical Transport) at Grove Park, M.T. Training Depot, London. On the 23rd September 1915 he was posted to Mediterranean Expeditionary Force and left for England on the 1st July 1917. He was promoted to Acting Sergeant at Grove Park on the 7th December 1917 On the 14th January 1918 he was posted to Egypt where he joined 493 Company. On the 22nd June 1918 he was promoted to Staff Sergeant. He embarked on the 13th June 1919 bound for Le Harve, France. He left France on the 28th June 1919 for England. On the 27th July 1919 he was transferred to Class Z, Army Reserve on Demobilization at Woolwich Dockyard, London to his home at Luton House, Madeley, Salop, Shropshire.
When he was serving in the Mediterranean he was taken ill. There is no record of what his ailment , and where he was treated, it may have been Malaria, On his pension document there is a reference as to his disability, Malaria is named. On the 22nd June 1917 he was invalided to England on Hospital Ship Huntsgreen and he was admitted to No2 Military Hospital, Old Park, Canterbury.
He was married, but apart from his marriage record, no mention of his wife was found. He was married on the 10th October 1917 to Miss Hannah Lily Bryan at St Michaels Church, Madeley, Salop, Shropshire.
I apologize if the above is a little disjointed, but most of his army records are missing and what remains are either water damaged or have been written out of sequence.
