James Vernon NEWMAN. Able Seaman J43827 Royal Navy on HMS Eagle. Born 7th October 1899 in the parish of St John, Gloucester to William Henry and Helena Sophia Newman, nee Hayward. In 1911 he resided with his parents at 60 St Catherine Street, Gloucester City. Enlisted 13th December 1929 on HMS Egmont II, (Wolverine) Occupation prior to enlistment, carman. Died 27th December 1929 aged 30 years at Royal Naval Hospital, Bighi, Malta, from general peritonitis and ruptured duodenal. Ulcer, and cardiac failure.
