James Moore McCLEERY

James Moore McCleery. Sergeant 18221, 13th Royal Irish Rifles (1st County Down Volunteers), Born 18 March 1895 to Rev. John Richard and Henrietta Frances McCleery, nee Hodgens of Riverdale Manse, Killyleagh. He was an apprentice manager in Shrigley Spinning Mill, Killyleagh. Enlisted at Downpatrick, County Down. Killed in action at the battle of the Somme, 1 July 1916 aged 21 years. His mother was granted a war gratuity 7 December 1916 revised 8 September 1919.

Commemorated on a family headstone in Killyleagh 1st Presbyterian Churchyard, Killyleagh, County Down, Northern Ireland also on the Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France
