James Gething BEARDSLEY, Harold Nathan BEARDSLEY (1)

James Gething BEARDSLEY. Private 19437, 15th Durham Light Infantry. Born at Ilkeston 1894 to Arthur William and Maria Beardsley. 1911 residing with his parents and siblings at 14 Ash Street, Cotmanhay, Ilkeston, occupation lace maker. At time of his enlistment he was residing with his parents and siblings at 4 Oxford Street, Long Eaton, Derbyshire. He enlisted into the army 7 September 1914 aged 20 years and 246 days. 1 October 1914 he was promoted to acting corporal. On Officer Commanding Orders for disobedience reduced to ranks (private) 21 May 1915. Posted to the B.E.F. in France 11 September 1915 and died of wounds in France 28 September 1915 aged 21 years. His mother was granted a war gratuity 14 January 1916, revised 30 July 1919. His brother Harold was killed in action at Loos, France, two days after his brother.

Commemorated on his parents’ memorial at Park Cemetery, Ilkeston, Derbyshire.

Harold Nathan BEARDSLEY Lance Corporal 13573, 12th Northumberland Fusiliers. Born 1895 at Ilkeston to Arthur William and Maria Beardsley. 1911 residing with his parents and siblings at 14 Ash Street, Cotmanhay, Ilkeston, occupation lace draughtsman (reader off). At time of his death his parents were residing at 4, Oxford Street, Long Eaton, Derbyshire. Killed in action 26 September 1915 aged 20 years at Loos. His father was granted a war gratuity 7 January 1916. His mother was granted a war gratuity 22 August 1919, father not mentioned this time. His brother James died of wounds in France two day before his brother.
